DRAWING CHALLENGE : ROBOTS

A couple of weeks ago I was presented with my first drawing challenge, being to design a robotic character. I have not recorded this until this date but think it is worth showing and mentioning. it doesn't consist of any digital drawing instead I concentrated on my hand drawn techniques, using my stylised way of shading using cross- hatching

I started by doing some research, I found images off different robots or robotic things and drew a couple to get use to the shapes. here is a small portion of these drawings.

ROBOTS RESEARCH SKETCHES.

from this I recognised common shapes and forms used and so jumped into some designs. for my first robot I wanted to use the form of a drawing I had done before. (shown in my first post "quick sketches" and based on a character in the book the Skillful Huntsman)

ROBOT 1 - D.A.V.E.

I thought this was okay but felt it looked to much like a cartoon and wanted to move away from that. I tried to make my next design a more menacing character. taking shapes from war robots and robot like creatures. and adding some features to differentiate it from just a metal humanoid.

ROBOT 2 - 27.
I was pleased with this design. I added the Gatling gun as a built in weapon to show its built to destroy. I also made sure I made the head shape almost skull like and the hand resemble a skeletal look.

I liked this design but wanted something humanoid yet built for battle or something similar. I eventually settled on a stealth styled robot, something built to "assassinate" I chose the inventive name of "Assassin-Bot".

ROBOT 3 - ASSASSIN-BOT.

I refrained from making him bulky as this would contradict the stealth idea. I also gave him a large blade and a mask styled face.
