MAYA : USS ENTERPRISE

This week For modelling I have moved into modelling from plans or blue print drawings. this is a industry wide used technique for modellers to create something from concept art drawn by concept artists. I have started off with a recognisable shape in the USS Enterprise, i have plans and drawings of this from the side, front and top to model from.

USS ENTERPRISE PLANS.

This is the image I had, obviously this cant be modelled from because it is all on the same page. I was required to split this into three images using cutting and setting them as the texture on three separate planes. I then positioned them correctly around the modelling are using reference on the images.

USS ENTERPRISE PLANS IN MAYA.

This is how I split and positioned them. From this I could then model in the three views to create an accurate representation of the ship. I used the tools and views in Maya to my advantage so set the view to the polygons being shaded as I prefer this but also to x-ray so I could see through the polygons to the plans.

USS ENTERPRISE 6.

These models show us the shape and sections of the USS Enterprise. however there are details that are not present, the reason for this is the poly count, any other details will be achieved using a texture map as to keep the model efficient. I hope to do this in the future.
